Vital Organ-izations? The Viability of the Nonprofit Healthcare Business Model
The American healthcare industry is the largest nonprofit sector, yet the number of for-profit healthcare companies and hospitals has been steadily increasing. The question is how might this affect the future of the healthcare industry? What are the business differences between for-profit and nonprofit appropriations? Would for-profit hospitals help to lower the rising costs of healthcare? Or is the industry better served with nonprofits as the leader?
This paper attempts to answer these questions on two levels: from a business perspective, by conducting strong trend analysis, correlation analysis, and data analysis; and from a theoretical and ethical perspective, with the help from our mentors, Dr. Susan Raymond, Executive Vice President of Changing Our World, Inc. and Mr. Brian Crimmins, Chief Executive Officer of Changing Our World, Inc.
The opinions in this paper are those of the authors. Changing Our World offers this work as a contribution to the discussion in the sector.
