Susan Carey Dempsey serves as a Senior Managing Director of Changing Our World, Inc., bringing a vast knowledge of fundraising and nonprofit management to her client work. In addition, Ms. Carey Dempsey is also the Editor-in-Chief of the onPhilanthropy.com network, responsible for editing the most widely read web sites and e-mail newsletters dedicated to philanthropy in the country.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Carey Dempsey served as Director of Development at the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor Foundation, a multi-million dollar international healthcare foundation supporting a Catholic healthcare system with assets over $1 billion. She successfully raised funds for programs as diverse as homeless shelters in Brooklyn to outreach services for children with post-traumatic stress disorder in Croatia. Through corporate sponsorships of major events, foundation grants, major gifts and other development initiatives, she supported the Foundation’s successful completion of a $65 million capital and endowment campaign. In her role as Director of Development, Ms. Carey Dempsey traveled to Budapest to conduct a feasibility study sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development.
She has been a fundraising and public relations consultant, and has served on the board of directors for many nonprofit organizations including Ireland’s Children, the Annie Moore Project of the Irish American Cultural Institute, Flax Trust, the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service and St. Gabriel’s Youth House.
The third of 14 children of Hugh L. and the late Helen Owen Carey, Ms. Carey Dempsey has extensive experience in political campaigns, public speaking, government and media relations. She received a BA in Psychology from the Catholic University of America and has done graduate work at Bennington College and NYU. Ms. Carey Dempsey and her husband, Martin, live in Bucks County, PA. They are the parents of Katherine, Susan and Ted.
